Pavel Zhirov, who was known first as Paul, was photographed with Madeline Hart by one of the women in her vacation party.[1] After Madeline disappeared, Gabriel Allon learned from Anton Orsati that Paul had asked him to provide someone who could deliver a package from Corsica to Marseilles. At the villa where Madeline had been held, Gabriel and Christopher Keller learned that Paul had taken Madeline to a safehouse which he would not identify to his cohorts for reasons of "operational security."
